Why Tennis Charter?

The players, parents and coaches that use tennis charter are serious about the game. They know that at the competitive level, the mental aspect of the game, and the formulation of an effective strategy, becomes paramount to consistent success.

Knowing your own strengths and weaknesses is critical in every tennis match, but how many players really know their game?

One player we charted was amazed to see that, when serving to the Ad side, he actually wins the same percentage of points on both his first serve and second serve. Clearly, his kick serve was just as effective has his flatter, and faster, first serves. In his next match, he changed his game based on Tennis Charter's results. Instead of his normal first serve, he hit a harder, more agressive version of his kick serve, when serving to the Ad side. As expected, his percentage of points won on first serve to the Ad side increased, without a decline in his percentage of points won on the 2nd serve.  His overall percentage of points won while serving to the Ad side (first and second serve) increased, and his overall percentage of points won while serving (first and second serves to both sides) increase as a result.

The players that use Tennis Charter are those that are serious about their game, and are constantly investing in ways to improve their game.
They typically invest money into things such as membership fees to a club (or clubs), private instruction, group drills, fitness and agility training, tournament entry fees, travel expenses, racquets, frequent racquet stringing, etc. They also make enormous investments of their own time and effort by dedicating dozens of hours a week to improving their game, fitness, mental toughness, strategy, consistency, and experience. All of these are investments in the player, and in their game.

When compared with these costs, the cost of Tennis Charter is practically negligible, but the value that any player can obtain from Tennis Charter is enormous in comparsion.

Imagine this senerio:

A parent purchases Tennis Charter a few days before he and his son make the trip to their USTA Sectional Tournament. His son is about to turn 16, and will soon be competing for college scholarships. During the tournament, the son plays 5 matches, 3 wins and 2 losses. Using Tennis Charter, the father and son can analyze the data from all five matches, as well as examine the data from the matches that were won and the matches that were lost seperatly. (The Match Filter ability is one of Tennis Charter's strongest features, and seperates it from it's competition. Learn more about the Match Filter)

When looking at the all the match data, one of the statistics that stood out was the percentage of points won when serving a second serve. On the Ad side, the son won 60% of his second serve points, while only winning 46% of second serve points to the Deuce side. The father and son then further investigate this by using the Match Filter to look at this same statistic, but for only the 2 matches where the son lost.

During the 2 losses, the son won 56% of his second serve points on the Ad side, but only won a mere 32% of his second serve points on the Deuce side. It is clear that the sons second serve to the Deuce side is a weakness, and was exploited in the matches that he lost.

Based on this information, they quickly use Tennis Charter to compare the son's first serve percentage on the Deuce side with the Ad side. Again, they find that the son is not doing as well on the Deuce side with his first serve. The stats show that during the 5 matches, the son's first serve percentage on the Ad side was 63%, while only 47% on the Deuce side. During the 2 matches that the son lost the first serve percentage on the Deuce side dropped to 41%.

Not only is the son's second serve to the deuce side a weakness in the son's game, but because his first serve percentage on the Deuce side is so low, he is being force to play to many second serves to this side.

When the son has his next lesson, he can inform his instructor of the results that Tennis Charter provided, or print out the statistics from his matches (with the Desktop Companion) to give to his instructor. More of the lesson time can be devoted to working on the 2nd serve to the Deuce side, as well as working on a higher percentage first serve to the same side.

When the next tournament arrives, the son can enter each match with the clear-cut knowledge that he must make a high percentage of his first serves to the Deuce side, and so he alters his strategy to hit a first serve with more spin on the Deuce side, rather than trying to blast in a flat serve. When he does miss his first serve, he knows that his added practice on his Deuce side second serve will pay off, and he is more confident about his serve.

After the tournament, the Match Filter can be used to compare the statistics from the first tournament with the statistics of the second tournament. The results are clear: increased first serve percentage to the Deuce side, increased percentage of second serve points won on the Deuce side, and increased percentage of points won while serving overall.
